Old Town or Stare Mesto
Bratislava was a typical medieval town with city walls and gates. Nearly all of old monuments can be seen in this small area and it is as well the most dynamic part of the city. The most attractive places is the St. Martin Church and Main Square with Old Town Hall. Entering every baroque palace courtyard is like discovering a new secret. House where young Mozart played, when he was aged 6, museum of viniculture (of making wine) with large machines to press the grapes or just enjoying the atmosphere will be your rewards. Bratislava Castle
The castle of Bratislava is more a military fortress then a manor house. Its habitants had to fight hard battles with Turks and huge walls have been their shelter. The views from castle hill are impressive, even in bad weather you can see to Austria, and usually you can see Hungary as well, what make together with Slovakia three different countries at very same time. Primate's Palace or Primacialny palac
In middle of old town a special building is attracting the visitors. After Napoleon's victory in the battle of Austerlitz (or Slavkov) the peace treaty between three emperors was signed here. The museum is presenting 17th century English tapestries, which were founded only by chance during renovation. |
